Mission Trails Visitor Center Loop

Sunday is a great day for a hike. Today was no exception. Grant and I loaded the dogs into the Jeep and headed to Mission Trails. We decided to hike the Visitor Center Loop. The Loop is about 2.3 miles and takes around an hour to complete. There were many hikers out this morning along with a few bike riders.

The dogs were excited to begin our journey. We got out of the Jeep and headed down the road to the trail. We walked down the main road and then vered off onto the trail.

As we walked along the trail there was a wonderful sense of peace. We heard rushing water from a near by creek and birds chirpping. The trail itself was well kept. We walked in soft sand, packed dirt, and along pebbles and rocks.

The only bad part about the Loop is the construction work that is being done. We came to a detour in the trail and was not sure what way to go. We began hiking up the hill. When we got to the top a security guard came out and told us to go around. Back down the hill we went.

Once we found the detour sign, we began back up the hill only in a harder steeper way. The hill was steep and rocky. I had to keep my head down and watch where I was walking. Once at the top, I felt great. I was glad we chose to go up the hard pass and not back around.

The Visitor Center Loop was a nice hike. It felt great. I’m looking forward to our next hike on Saturday.

My first “hike”

Grant and I took our new puppy, Kiki, and our fabulous dog, Loki out for our first hike. Knowing that we were both out of shape, I decided that we needed to start with something on the easy side. We walked around Bankers Hill.

The amazing thing about Bankers Hill is the bridges that span the canyons. One of the bridges we crossed was this amazing suspension bridge, which  begins at Spruce St. As we crossed the bridge we felt this strange swaying and bouncing. It was small at first and then was a bit more pronounced toward the middle. Loki was fine with it but the puppy, Kiki, was a bit miffed.

Once over the bridge we wound our way in a beautiful residental neighborhood. The homes varied in style and the yards were imiculate.

As we were ending our stroll, the rain began to fall. It was the perfect first hike on my journey to Half Dome.

Oh My, Here Comes 40!

I’m about 3 months away from my 40th birthday. 40 is one of those milestone birthdays. It’s a time where one reflects on their life, the successes, the failures, and everything in between.

The goal of creating this blog is to share my journey to 40. I have spent much time contemplating on how I’m going to celebrate. Do I want to go somewhere? Have a big party? Small party? Dinner with just a few friends? Of just do nothing? With the help of my boyfriend Grant, I have come up with a wonderful plan, a little bit of everything. :-) Half Dome Yosemite National Park

My journey began when I reserved a tent-cabin at Curry Village and purchased “Afoot and Afield in San Diego”.

The goal: Hike to the top of Half Dome.

The question: How am I going to make it to the top of Half Dome?

The answer: Lots of hard work, training, and getting in shape.
